Anti-fog technology for transparent materials

In November 2003, Nippon Oils Co., Ltd. developed a semi-permanent anti-fogging layer on the surface of glass, and succeeded in launching it to the market. In the past, a polymer coating containing a hydrophilic group was directly applied on the surface of glass, plexiglass, polycarbonate or the like. Since the coating was weakly bonded to the substrate, it easily fell off and the life was short. The problem is solved successfully by coating the organic peroxide substrate on the surface and applying a polymer layer on it to make it chemically bonded.
In the past, mirrors in bathrooms and dressing rooms were often equipped with electric heaters on the back to remove moisture from the mist to prevent fogging. Swimming goggles, glasses, diving masks, etc. also affect the normal use due to moisture fog. For this reason, it is required to develop an anti-fog technology suitable for thin sheets of glass, resins, and the like.
At present, the company has produced two types of G-type and HG-type. The test piece was continuously vaporized by water vapor and immersed in warm water, and there were no attached aerosols. It was left in a water temperature of 100°C for 4 hours for durability measurement, and was still bright and clear.
