How to Make a Doll Pillowcase, Step by Step
We'll start with a simple, plain doll pillowcase that looks just like a real one. It has an overlapping flap at the top, making it easy to insert your doll's pillow.
To make the plain pillowcase:
- Front: 11 ¼ inches (28.5cm) x 7 inches (17.8cm)
- Back: 13 ¼ inches (33.5cm) x 7 inches (17.8cm)
On the wrong side of both pieces, fold over each short edge twice by ¼ inch (6mm), then stitch the hems in place.
Place the front and back pieces right sides together, aligning the unhemmed edges. Fold the hemmed end of the back over the front, then sew around the sides and bottom with a ¼ inch (6mm) seam. Finish the edges with a zigzag stitch or serger and clip the corners.
Turn the pillowcase right side out and press it flat. You're all set to put your doll's pillow inside—it’s ready for playtime!
Tailored Doll Pillowcase Pattern
This version features a beautiful border on one end, perfect for adding lace, trim, or any decorative elements along the seam. It gives the pillowcase a more refined and elegant look.
To make the tailored version:
- Front: 9 ½ inches (24cm) x 7 inches (17.8cm)
- Border: 4 ½ inches (11.4cm) x 7 inches (17.8cm)
- Back: 13 ¾ inches (35cm) x 7 inches (17.8cm)
Press the border in half width-wise with the wrong sides together. Then, with right sides facing, sew the border to the front piece along one edge. Press the seam and add some lace or trim if desired.
On the back piece, press one of the short edges twice by ¼ inch (6mm), then stitch the hem. Align the front and back pieces, fold the back’s hem over the front, and sew the sides and bottom with a ¼ inch (6mm) seam. Finish the edges and clip the corners.
Turn the pillowcase right side out and give it a good press. Now you have two stylish doll pillowcases ready to use!
