It's been a while since I last updated this entertainment center, but I've been really busy with some side projects—like launching this new website and blog platform. Still, that's no excuse. I've also been making good progress on the build itself!
In my last post, I started breaking down the materials for the casework and preparing them for assembly. Once the basic structure was together, I milled some pine panels for the shiplap backs. These are simple panels that slide into grooves on the back of the case—no glue required. I also attached the front trim using glue and finish nails.
After installing all the shiplap backs, I clamped the cases together to get a better sense of how everything would look when fully assembled. One important thing to remember during this build is that the entire unit needs to be disassembled into three main parts, so nothing can be permanently glued.
Once I had a clear idea of the overall look, I shifted my focus to the two sliding barn doors that will form the front. While the cabinet was still assembled, I took exact measurements and began building the doors. They're actually pretty straightforward—just solid pine wood. The only slightly tricky part was aligning the angles on the cross beams. I even found some old, rusty nails that add a nice weathered look.
The next step will be to hang the doors properly to ensure everything lines up and functions as intended. After that, I'll install the final trim molding across the top and bottom. Once that's done, it'll be time for the finishing touches. I won't be doing the actual finishing myself, but the cases will be painted with milk paint, and the doors will get a clear coat for protection.
