China's universities and colleges have set up packaging engineering for sixteen or seven years. In this short period of more than 10 years, the professional construction of packaging engineering has developed rapidly, basically forming a systematic, relatively independent professional and disciplinary system, and has delivered a large number of specialized talents for the country’s economic construction, and has promoted the development of packaging in China. It is very important. However, we should see that with the changes in the relationship between supply and demand of domestic talents, the intensifying competition for graduates has become increasingly fierce, and the training of packaging engineering professionals has also been seriously challenged. Graduation students have encountered difficulties in their employment.
This article discusses personal views on the current situation of professional packaging engineering in order to seek common development, professional training, and strengthening the ability of graduation students to work.
I. Supply and demand situation and characteristics of packaging engineering professionals
The supply and demand situation of packaging engineering professionals can be illustrated in the following table (omitted).
Judging from the list of competitive situations and the actual situation of the talent market, compared with other majors, the in-service competition for graduating students of packaging engineering has the characteristics of more competition, less demand, and less socialized packaging design.
1, more professional competition
The packaging industry is composed of a variety of industrial categories. Each category also involves a variety of technologies or business content. The necessary talents must form a variety of professional competition. Especially in the case of oversupply of talents in many industries, the intensification of various professional competitions is inevitable. The professional counterpart to each station category is always in a dominant position and has a strong competitive advantage in employment.
For example, most of the glass (ceramic) packaging companies require graduate students from silicates and related art design disciplines. Although glass (ceramic) packaging is an important category of packaging, but graduates of packaging engineering can enter these companies work very little, completely in a competitive disadvantage.
Similarly, for packaging machinery development, production companies, plastic material development and container manufacturing companies, metal container manufacturers and packaging and printing companies, etc., their professional counterparts in mechanical design, manufacturing for the public, high-end materials and their molding, pressure processing and printing And so on, compared with the packaging engineering profession, all have a strong competitive advantage in employment.
2, less demand

3, socialization of packaging design
The enterprise's modeling, product packaging and CI design are undertaken by social professional design institutes, colleges and universities and individual designers. The design level is relatively high and the overall cost is low. This is a method that many companies are willing to adopt. Of course, the most obvious effect of the socialization of design is to curb the company's need for packaging talent.
Second, strengthen the professional competency of packaging engineering
The strength of competitive ability of graduate students is basically determined by the orientation of professional training and the knowledge system formed. Therefore, to improve the competitive ability of graduating students of packaging engineering, we should continue to study, optimize the structure of the curriculum, adjust the training direction in accordance with the requirements of the talent market, in order to obtain the effect of supply and demand on the road.
1, the current packaging engineering structure problem
The packaging engineering major takes engineering as a science, mechanics, physical chemistry, biology, materials science and design aesthetics as a professional basic theory course. Based on this, it opens up packaging materials, packaging machinery, packaging technology, packaging structure design, and transportation packaging. There are many professional courses such as design, packaging testing, packaging and printing, packaging art design and packaging management. This course structure is undoubtedly more fully reflects the characteristics of packaging engineering disciplines.
