The new machine measures body muscle and fat content

According to BusinessInsider, General Electric (GE) has introduced a scanner Lunar iDXA that measures the amount of fat and muscle in various parts of the body. Last week, BI editor JAY YAROW experienced the machine.

He said that after testing, his right arm was heavier than the left arm by half a pound, the right leg was 0.7 pounds heavier than the left leg, the bone weight was about 6.5 pounds, and the rest of the body was muscle and fat, with fat accounting for 18.5%. He lay down under the machine for 10 minutes and then got the data.

He said that the information as a reporter and editor did not make much difference to him. He only thought it was fun, but GE believes that this information is very valuable for professional golfers and other athletes. Todd Weston, a GE Healthcare representative, said golfers value the muscles of their right arm because they hit the right hand.

The machine looks very simple, with only a blue mattress and no metal, like the airport scanner. When scanning, people lie on the mattress, and then a robotic arm scans your entire body, like a copy machine scans a piece of paper. Depending on the size of the person, the scan may take 6-10 minutes.

Weston said the machine has actually existed for about 20 years and was used in menopausal women to test bone density in the past. They have recently used it for the physical testing of athletes.
