● Composition and Function of Ink The ink is composed of colorants, binders, and auxiliary agents.
The role of pigment
1, to the ink with color, how much the color of the ink determines the depth and thickness of the ink color.
2, pigment has a strong durability.
3, affect the ink dryness, the most obvious oxidative conjunctiva drying.

● The role of the binder
1, give the ink a certain viscosity, viscosity, fluidity and thixotropy.
2, determine the ink drying speed and drying type.
3, determine the ink gloss, abrasion resistance, firmness and so on.

Factors that affect paper absorbency

The amount of ink absorbed by the paper is the degree of absorption of the binder in the ink. It is the surface property of paper fiber, which is a comprehensive reflection of factors such as fiber interweaving condition, filler and compound properties and content. Its essence is the capillary adsorption of the ink binder on the gap between the fiber itself and the fiber.

Therefore, the greater the amount of ink absorbed by the paper, the better the ink absorption will be, and vice versa. The ink absorption of different papers varies greatly. Offset paper, under normal circumstances can not be too good ink absorption, especially coated paper, card paper, cloth paper and other high-end paper ink absorption is strictly limited. The ink absorption of newsprint, writing paper and letterpress paper is relatively strong.

1, fiber surface smoothness. The smoother the paper fiber surface, the weaker the ink absorption. For example, coated paper has high smoothness and poor ink absorption.
2, paper filler quality. Clay fillers have good ink absorption, and kaolin clay, talcum powder, and barium sulphate used in high-grade coated paper have poor ink absorption.
3, paper filler, the amount of plastic material. Paper with many glues and fillers has poor ink absorption, and vice versa. Commonly used rubber compounds are rosin gum, aluminum sulfate, starch, casein, paraffin, and the like. Sizing has the effect of blocking the gap between the fibers and reducing the capillaries. The rubber also has a certain water resistance, which can impede the penetration of moisture, improve the gloss, strength, sound of the paper, and prevent paper from fluffing. Adding a certain amount of fillers, rubber compounds, and colorants can improve the surface smoothness of the paper, reduce the paper transparency, and absorb ink. Increase the whiteness and weight of the paper.
4. I believe that paper with more lignin has strong ink absorption. Such as newsprint lignin, ink absorption is strong.
5, the absorption of ink on the paper is also related to the size of the press, the length of the stamping time, and the viscosity of the ink.
In short, the ink absorption of paper is the two-way effect of paper and ink, and is related to the printing process.

The effect of paper's ink absorption on print quality

1. Newsprint is the main paper used in books and newspapers, with loose paper and strong ink absorption. Newsprint contains a large amount of lignin and other impurities, and the paper tends to be yellow and brittle. It is prone to defects such as unacceptable overprint and poor gloss of printed ink.

2. The rough surface of the letterpress paper has a large amount of ink absorption and is mainly used for printing books and periodicals. Although the ink absorption of letterpress paper is not as good as newsprint, it absorbs ink evenly. When printed with water, the stretchability is strong and the ink gloss is poor.

3. The drying method of offset paper ink is mainly oxidized conjunctiva. The ink absorption performance of offset paper is poor. It is necessary to have a certain thickness of ink layer to ensure the glossiness of prints. Only printing on paper with weak ink absorption can block the ink. The infiltration of the link material to maintain the ink gloss. Paper with low ink absorbency also has low water absorption, which is conducive to accurate overprinting.

4, blotting paper should be as slow as possible, not too fast. Coated paper is composed of base paper and paint (white pigment and adhesive). In general, the ink absorption is controlled between 30 and 60 seconds, and the ink absorption of high-quality coated paper is controlled at about 90 seconds. Only in this way can the printing be clear. bright. If the ink absorption of the coated paper is faster, it will cause the imprinting to be dull, and in severe cases, it will also cause imprinting and chalking. Coated paper is a layer of white paste coated on the base paper. The surface is smooth, the ink absorbing condition is very good, the surface whiteness is high, and the flexibility is small. It is suitable for printing high-end exquisite trademarks, packaging and decoration products.
