Valspar Fully Launches ValOR Resin to European Market

ValOR is a series of new barrier/deoxidizer resin products. ValOR bottles can extend the shelf life of beer, which can be used by brewers to use large-capacity plastic beer bottles. ValOR resins are proprietary polyesters and are less likely to delaminate than other barrier resins commonly used in multilayer PET constructions. Adam Sarson, general manager of Valspar, said in an interview that the company is fully introducing the resin to the market in Europe.

Sarson said: "This is a response to the current market demand." The company has applied the resin to the limited commercial production of films and cardboard. In addition, NatureWorks LLC will report on the results of its in-depth investigations on improving the barrier properties of PLA bottles. According to a press release, PLA poses a challenge to PET in applications such as milk beverages, fruit juices, and water because oxygen barriers do not pose a problem in these applications.

The company is headquartered in Blair, Nebraska, and is working with its partners to position PLA bottles for extended shelf life applications. Officials say there are several technical solutions that can be applied to PLA bottles to improve barrier properties. These include multilayer structures, coatings, and additives.
