It is reported that researchers from a Japanese university have developed a new technique to increase the strength of stainless steel. The technology is to first smash the stainless steel powder again with a powerful crusher and apply a strong force for kneading. Then, the stainless steel powder was put into a mold and sintered at a high temperature of 800°C. This technique is actually a non-equilibrium powder metallurgy method used to make precision materials. When this method is used to produce stainless steel, the material begins to crystallize at room temperature, and the microcrystalline grains in the material after sintering are smaller than those in ordinary stainless steel, which is the key to its high strength. Compared with ordinary stainless steel, the stainless steel manufactured using new technology has a significant increase in various properties. The tensile strength is 2.2 times that of the original and the bending strength is 3.4 times that of the original.
